New Years Resolutions Or Goals?

2017 IS HERE!

It’s time for the New Years Resolutions right?

There is a strange occurrence that commonly happens with New

Years Resolutions…  They often DIE by February 2nd!

January 2nd the gyms are packed but come February 2nd they are empty.

Why is that? My experiences in my past were once I fell off my resolution, whether it be subconsciously or consciously, I gave up.  It was only a New Years resolution not a resolution for the whole New Year.  Once I stopped that was it.

When we maker the mental shift from New Years resolution to a goal, there can be a long term commitment to continuing long after the resolution died.

When we hit the goal we have achieved we can raise our bar and set a new goal.  When we have failed to hit our goal we can reset it and try again which will allow us to continue that resolution to actually get what we hoped for!

Find a victory in every defeat to remain hopeful and find a defeat in victory to remain humble…

The Power Of Encouragement

Dante Gabriel Rossetti, a famous 19th-century poet and artist, was once approached by an elderly man.

dante-gabriel-rossettiThe old fellow had some sketches and drawings that he wanted Rossetti to look at and tell him if they were any good, or if they at least showed potential talent.

Rossetti looked over them carefully. After the first few, he knew that they were worthless but Rossetti was a kind man, he told the elderly man as gently as possible that the pictures were without much value and showed little talent. He was sorry, but he could not lie to the man. The man was disappointed, but seemed to expect Rossetti’s judgment.

The old man then apologized for taking up Rossetti’s time, but asked him to look at a few more drawings.

Rossetti looked over the second batch of sketches and immediately became enthusiastic over the talent they revealed. “These,” he said, “oh, these are good.”

“This young student has a great talent. He should be given every help and encouragement. He has a great future.”

Rossetti could see that the old fellow was deeply moved.

“Who is this fine young artist?” he asked. ”Your son?”

“No,” said the old man sadly.

“It is me  – 40 years ago. If only I had heard your praise then! For you see, I got discouraged and gave up – too soon.”

In my experiences over the years working with many people, many of whom are “self motivated” and take pride in the fact they “Don’t need encouragement”, I have notice an almost subconscious yearning for encouragement and recognition, even in the strongest of personalities.

I have seen very promising entrepreneurs literally give up on their dreams,  largely due to the lack of encouragement from their peers, family or mentors.

I was one of them…. almost…

I will never forget two specific moments that are still like a dagger in my heart that actually now fuel me.

  1.  I was maybe 28 years old, just getting clean and sober and had my passion for music still and wanting to put together a band or even just record a CD.  I purchased a drum set to get back in the groove (already had guitar & amp etc) and had a friend of mine mock me and say “You 28 years old why would you buy a drum set?!”
  2.  The second time I remember is when I was wanting to start my Lawn Care business (the first time) and made some flyers, told a friend what I was going to do and his words were, I kid you not; “Good luck with that”.charlesschwab

As I stated earlier, I use it to fuel me… now, but at the time it honestly devastated me as I was just starting to get back on my feet and get some hope back.

I want to encourage you all to encourage and appreciate/recognize people within your organization or people/teams you are working with.  You will find it will bless not only them, but you and everyone they will impact down the road,

Seven Secrets For Success

Seven Secrets To Success.

On our journey to success, regardless of what area it is, we will run into obstacles and set backs.  This can either stop us or inspire us to run harder based on our mindset.

One thing that will help make those bump smooth is knowing why we are going against the grain of mediocrity.

1. Know your WHY! Nothing happens but first a dream…

2. Believe it! Visualize it! Meditate/PRAY on it! As a man thinketh so is he…

3. Invest in & grow your SELF personally, financially and in business. Warren Buffett’s advice:
A) Get out of debt.
B) STAY out of debt.
C) Invest In yourself.

4. Lead by example don’t manage by position. Push self and love others not push others and love self.

5. Do the WORK.
“Opportunity is missed by most because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” Thomas Edison

6. Don’t listen to the critics! Let your results prove them wrong! Listen only those who HAVE THE RESULTS you want. Find a mentor.

7. SERVE OTHERS!!! As you learn; teach. As you succeed; teach & help others succeed. When you “make it” Inspire others to learn, teach and serve others!

What Is Your Dream?!

Whether we wait until after we get the results we want or we are getting the results on the journey, I encourage people to share what they learn to help bless others.

This world is a dog eat dog and often selfish with true success becoming increasingly difficult.  If we have a “servant leadership” heart to help others learn how to get ahead more in life to help them, their families and communities we can’t but help but truly be the difference we ant to see,

You Can’t Take Your Same Old Self Into A Bright New Future!

So 2016 is three quarters done! Have you succeeded or have you, for lack of better terms “failed”? If you have failed fear not! You haven’t failed unless you’ve quit! Those shortcoming are in the past!

Even the dog in the mirror knows what she sees “behind her” in the mirror is just that, behind her…

The failures of 2016 are smaller than they appear! and…. In the past. If we CHOSE we can USE the failures to learn from and build upon much like Michael Jordan used HIS failures (getting kicked off of the team, missing game winning shots etc.) To succeed.

This next year you have another chance! Every day you have another chance!! Spend less time looking in the rear view mirror and where you have been, and MORE time looking forward at the road ahead of you and where you are going. As great as Michael Jordan was, he always learned from people around him and still had a coach…. imagine if all of us were willing to learn from people around us and were willing to take council/mentor from a coach? What could we accomplish? What do you want to accomplish? Will what you are doing now allow you too? If not…you need different information, different association to truly get the results you want…..and we are. And we will!! Its what we do!

What are your goals for the next four months?

Be Blessed!

What Are We Attracting?

OpportuniyI see many people post ON PUPOSE their problems and or complain about things as opposed to NOT posting them or making the decision to NOT complain about them. In doing this we attract MORE attention to them. That cycle of negativity will then manifest itself even MORE until the negative will eventually have POWER over us.

Let’s take that same philosophy and apply it to NOT complaining, NOT posting problems or negative and NOT drawing attention to the negative but rather to the #POSITIVE! That too will manifest itself, attract more and WE will have power of our results in life and our FUTURE. We must BE the difference we want to see so let us ask ourselves… Do we want to BE the negative we post NEXT YEAR TOO? Or do we want to be BEYOND that and be the person we KNOW we can become?

Dwell not on the negative but rather on what is lovely, of good repute, anything worthy of praise…. So a man or woman think… So are they….

We must remember we can not always control our circumstances but we CAN control our attitude and response to them.

We can not change our past but we CAN change our future.

Start a ripple of reframed thinking for a POSITIVE MINDSET to help heal the hurting and those who feel defeated.

Be blessed,

Freedom, Entrepreneurship & The Declaration of independence

The Declaration of Independence was signed by our founding fathers in July of 1776, breathing into the heart of America and its citizens, the right to have rights and the freedom that came with them.

The principles of truth within the declaration helped lay the solid foundation that this country and business within it was built on.  With these rights, the people of America had adopted a way of living;  Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.  One of these “happiness’s” was the option and accomplishment of becoming a successful entrepreneur.

Though this country has changed immensely (sadly to the level that would have our founding fathers turning over in their grave) the principles of entrepreneurship are very much the same as they were then.

Much in the way the Declaration allowed us to succeed as a nation, entrepreneurship and applying the principles of succeeding in it, can help us succeed not only in business but in life in general.

We have heard the phrase “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness”  Lets break that down a bit.

Today’s world is much different than is was then.  Then most everyone was an entrepreneur of some sort and less were employees.  Much of the time the employees had a decent amount of time for with their family and for their purpose.  Though it involved hard work, being an entrepreneur, one had more control of their time and in many ways the economy in general.

As an entrepreneur we have more power to create our future as opposed to have it create us.  Many of us realize whether we simply want to get by or have an elegant lifestyle we will have to work hard so why not work toward our dreams as opposed to our bosses?

In the same way the founding fathers broke free from the tyrannical government of Britain, that is how many people feel about declaring their independence from the security and comfort of their job seeking their passion and chasing their dreams through entrepreneurship.

That very choice to literally create our future, however grand we want it, is also dependent on how much and to what level we are willing to invest in ourselves.  The greater the lifestyle, cause or legacy we want to leave will be available to us by simply educating ourselves to that level.  An “educated people” are less likely to be controlled by others (whether as an entrepreneur or a nation) and as we chase our dreams, success and excellence as an entrepreneur we will be learning business, leadership, finances, success principles, taxes and so much more that will essentially equip us with the best investment we could ever make…. knowledge and in ourselves.

Our freedom in this country is very important especially for us entrepreneurs as without it, we could not exist.  take a look at the countries that don’t have freedom; they also have very little choice.

Entrepreneurs often times have the freedom or liberty to design their days (or evenings) the way they want.  Time management and discipline will definitely be skills we will want to develop and master or this liberty can actually work against us. 🙂

Now that we are on the path to the lifestyle we want and the liberty to decide how we want to pave the road, we have to take an honest look at one thing.  What exactly determines happiness?  I know many entrepreneurs who were “successful” but not happy.  I knew many who had the lifestyle but were not happy.

To truly be happy we must learn what we don’t know and grow where we don’t think we need too.

Success in business but failing relationships with a spouse or children with not bring happiness.  Making $200,000 a year and spending $200,000 a year will not bring happiness.  As Benjamin Franklin says:  “An Investment in knowledge always pays the best interest” but in our pursuit of happiness; it is only the application of the right knowledge in the right areas that will truly bring happiness.

My passion is to help encourage and inspire people to find their passion in life, discover their purpose, get them on a path of Self Directed Education to find a way to make that profitable for them so they can truly live the life they’ve always wanted, to live a life of priority not of obligation so they can make a difference in this world (if not already doing so as many indeed already are) and leave a legacy.

You Can. End Of Story.

Many people want different results in several areas of their life whether it be personal or in business but frequently aren’t able to get them for one reason or another.

Why is that? Well, quite honestly; you can ask ten different people and get 100 different answers.

Over the years I have been blessed to have the opportunity to mentor, be mentored by and work with literally hundreds of people and business owners and found in addition to information and association (the obvious) another common denominator to lack of success or breakthrough is simply “belief”: Belief it can be done or belief it can be done by them.

Once identifying the reason is indeed lack of belief, the reason WHY there is a lack of belief is the next Goliath to tackle. There are literally thousands of books and audios to help one overcome this hurdle and many people have no idea where to start.

I have three incredible books and three incredible audios I recommend that I have seen time and time again proven results from (hence my recommendation on these specific ones)

  1.  Visualize Your Future – Dan Hawkins
  2. Lens Effect – Orrin Woodward
  3. Insights On Attitude & The Will To Win – Bill Lewis

  1. Magic Of Thinking Big – David J. Schwartz
  2. Psychology Of Winning – Dennis Waitley
  3. How To Win Friends And Influence People – Dale Carnegie

I highly encourage you all to dive into any and even ALL of these books and audios.   When I struggled with belief and low confidence I was also not willing to go out and “meet” people.  I was shy, no self esteem and quite honestly had social anxiety so would limit my surroundings and not step out into my comfort zone to meet new people.

Once I forced myself to change and improve my surroundings and people I normally associated with I realized the simplicity of making breakthroughs in this area then many more to follow.

Do whatever it takes to meet and surround yourself with people who are forward thinking, success minded, uplifting and encouraging.  You will find it is a night and day difference and will propel you to getting you where you want to go in life.

The Journey

While “working” on many things I am focused on one. Though many see my posts, hear my words and some know my heart, few truly KNOW me. My life has always been completely screwed up. Or has it? It never went the way “I” wanted it or has it? Many things were beyond my control but much of it consequences from what WAS in my control.

Although not the way “I” wanted it I see how it was orchestrated and more importantly WHY. ALL things, even the trials and chaos, work together for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28)

Before I knew Him, God knitted me together.  Before I hated Him, God laid the the tracks.
Before I followed Him, God was loading the locomotive of my journey with the coal it needed.

Folks the train hasn’t even left the depot yet…

The first 30 years of my life I feel I was still molten steel in the molding process being brought through the fire, intense heat not yet knowing it’s purpose.

The next ten years were the manufacturing process and assembly of the locomotive. The hammering, grinding, refining, polishing and preparation for the journey and bringing it to the tracks so I could finally look and see down the tracks and where they might be leading me.

The last five years, yet trials again, able to see and know the reason for the intense heat. The tender, or coal car, has been being loaded for the journey, the coal fueling the fire creating the steam needed. The fired is stoked, the blower is blowing and the damper is open. The engine is chugging and the whistle is sounding…. This train is getting ready to leave the depot…

Onward down the tracks starting the real journey… The purpose…. The legacy…

Some will watch the train depart and wave good bye… Some will stay home.

Some will board the train, others already have…

Some will be waiting at the next depot… Others will wish they would have been..

Stay tuned….

JOB SECURITY:                             image

What is it?  Does it still exist?  I was brought up in a generation where we were taught five simple steps to a successful life:

• Go to school & get good grades
• Go to college
• Get a good job with benefits
• Work hard and get recognized & rewarded for it
• Retire at 55

Does this still work? Does anyone know anyone who went to college but doesn’t have a career in their field? Does anyone know anyone who does have a “good job” in their career but their company owns them? Does anyone know ANY one who can actually retire at 55? 60? 65?

Do you see the trend?

There is a huge shift happening in the economy that has tens of thousands of people turning their 401 K (or sometimes Special K’s) to start their own businesses; to become entrepreneurs, or buy into a franchise (PLEASE check the FEES and actual PROFITS of this option) which is GREAT; unless they haven’t done research and are unwilling to learn what they don’t know.

Now, I am all for being an entrepreneur and am one myself, however, statistics show an alarmingly high rate of businesses fail within the first 5 years and few actually generate a profit if they make it. So what is one to do?

PLAN! Make sure this is not a “spontaneous” decision. (Not that that won’t work) but it is much safer if it is something that is a passion of yours as you will truly enjoy it if it is and also if it is something you have been planning or dreaming about for a long time.

Also make sure you have a good business plan, marketing strategy and check how many other like businesses may be in the area; but the number one thing that will give you an edge over the others is INFORMATION. The companies that learn at a faster rate than the others, will be the ones to grow (both personally and business) faster.

LEADERSHIP LLR Sub:                   image

Is one of the most if not THE most important area to learn and grow in. True leadership will teach principles of integrity, character and horror as well as people skills, conflict resolution and over all leadership as opposed to “management”.

We are now in the “Information Age” and leadership information is honestly the difference between where you are and where you want to be, again, both personally and in business.

Now imagine you are able to combine leadership development as an entrepreneur with a systematic (Franchise) growth plan and continued education platform? That, interestingly enough, is exactly what LIFE Leadership has done. The LIFE program offers PROFIT SHARING to individuals who become LIFE members to learn for their own personal growth, to better run their businesses or corporations or if they want to utilize their true entrepreneurial spirit and gifts, build communities of leaders. In either case this is a “win/win” option as you can never “lose” if you are investing in knowledge.

To quote:
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” – Benjamin Franklin

I encourage all of you who have started their own business or are thinking about it, to look into this program/opportunity whether it is to better run your business or to make LIFE your business. College may teach us to succeed at a job, but the LIFE business seems to be focused and determined to help people succeed in LIFE. What good is a “good job” if your marriage is falling apart? What good is $200,000 a year if you don’t know how to manage it? If you spend it your still broke!

I encourage you all to chase your DREAMS, but also encourage you all to plan them, and if possible, learn from someone who actually has the results you want or a COMMUNITY of them!

God Bless,

Colin Sexton

CHANGE: Between the Decision and the Process

It  is an interesting action, decision and process.  Many want the results of change but will do almost anything to avoid the process it involves to get those results, whether in our personal lives (Relationships, health, finances or entertainment/education habits) or in business.  I completely understand this  as I was one completely opposed to change after I “knew it all” 🙂  What is interesting is although the process may take time, the decision takes only a split second.

There’s no way around it. If we ever want to see any growth in any area of our lives or business we will need to change.   The truth is in order to get where we want to go in life we have to become who we haven’t become yet.

Take a body builder for example:  Before they started lifting and gained muscle mass, they had other habits; what they did with their time, their diet, they mindset etc.  In order to increase strength and size and to stay in the routine of it all, they needed to change every one of those areas.

I have heard it said that the only person who like change is a baby! Why do so few people like change? Funny you should ask!  Because it requires us getting out of comfort zone (which if we are honest with ourselves isn’t truly comfortable but rather just FAMILIAR).  It requires commitment and it requires a certain level of humility to admit maybe we DON’T “know it all”.

In business we should always be growing both personally and in process improvement.  To simply continue to keep doing the same thing because “that’s just the way we’ve always done it” does not work in the information age where so much of our competition is actively learning, growing and in turn changing.  The whole point of process improvement is to CHANGE what doesn’t work or even what might be “good enough” to become “better” or GREAT!

I will leave you with a one of my favorite but convicting quotes.  Take a breath and be ready for it for it will either offend you or INSPIRE you to strive to change to achieve the GREATNESS you KNOW you all have in side you!

“Winners hate losing enough to change and losers hate changing enough to lose.”  Orrin Woodward
